What you can buy in Russia for import: agricultural products and foodstuffs

In recent months, an increasing number of Chinese companies have approached RAUIE with requests for supplies of agricultural and agro-industrial products. Right now, due to the actions of the US and its allies, there is a strong increase in inflation and the risk of starvation in the world, but Russia is well supplied with basic crops, meat and prepared foods, and is willing to supply them to friendly countries, especially China.

Currently, there are some restrictions on food exports, such as wheat exports, for which reason agricultural exports from Russia amounted to $4.29bn as of 6 March, 8% lower than in the same period last year. Nevertheless, other agricultural products are actively being shipped abroad.

At present, the positive development of some export segments is partly counterbalanced by declining exports in other sectors. For example, exports of fish and seafood increased by 61% in the first quarter of 2022. Deliveries of oil and fats increased by 41%, exports of food and processing products increased by 24% and meat and dairy products increased by 20%.

Many Russian exporters are now open to mutually beneficial cooperation. The most important area of Russian exports is agricultural products: vegetable oils (rapeseed oil, linseed oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil): grains and oilseeds (ramen, corn, flax seeds, soybean, barley); sunflower meal, soybean meal, flax fiber, meat and meat products and much more. There are also many good food products in Russia, including alcoholic and soft drinks, confectionery and flour products, pasta, chocolate, snacks, products for healthy eating, canned and semi-finished fish.

Despite the challenging global environment, Russia's cooperation with many countries continues to be characterised by a high level of interaction and significant volumes of mutual trade. Russia has great potential to further increase exports of Russian products, and the strong dynamics of Russian exports allow us to be optimistic about the future and create favourable conditions for companies wishing to try their hand in foreign markets.
