On November 22, the Eurasian Economic Congress was held in a hybrid format (online and offline) at MIA Russia Today International Multimedia Press Center. The event was organized by the Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations of Moscow.
The event was opened with a welcoming speech by the Minister of the Moscow Government, Head of the Department of External Economic and International Relations of Moscow Sergey Cheryomin.
Within the framework of the section “The EAEU and China: How does the Silk Road Economic Belt interface with Eurasian integration?” the President of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RAUIE) Vitaly Mankevich spoke on the topic “The EAEU and China: Economic Results of "Turn to the East" and Prospects”.
“Over the past 8 years, we have been able to increase trade with China from $ 88.7 billion to $ 125-130 billion, which we will see in 2021. Is it a lot or a little? This means that the average growth rate of turnover for 8 years amounted to 4.6%, all other things being equal, this is a fairly modest figure. At the same time, we were able to launch global infrastructure projects: Power of Siberia, Yamal LNG, Amur Gas Chemical Complex. We were able to reverse the trend in agriculture, ensure our food security, and largely thanks to the countries and regions of Asia, we were able to increase the export of agricultural products and food products, ”said Vitaly Mankevich.
The section was moderated by Nikolai Vavilov: “In 2020, the volume of Russia's foreign trade decreased by $ 100 billion. Nevertheless, the importance of the ASEAN countries for Russia is growing; but the Russian Federation cannot yet replace China's Western partners. Cooperation in raw materials is gradually turning into a more complex one: CNPC and Rosneft are jointly building an oil refinery, Rosatom is building a nuclear power plant in Liaoning. ”
