On February 18, a scientific and practical conference was held at MGIMO University to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Indonesia. The business community represented by the RAUIE members also took part in the discussion. Representatives of the Russian Federation and Indonesia discussed the problems and prospects of economic and humanitarian cooperation.
In the speeches, MGIMO Rector A.V. Torkunov, RISI Director M.E. Fradkov and Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Mohamad Vahid Supriyadi touched upon the whole range of issues of bilateral relations - from mutual investment and technological exchange to security cooperation, including in countering cyber threats.
During the session, the participants discussed the prospects of the Russian-Indonesian strategic partnership. The discussion was made by Dr. Hariyadi Viravan (University of Indonesia), who noted the priority areas of cooperation, focusing on joint research and educational projects. ASEAN Center Director V.V. Sumsky also included in the agenda the expansion of information exchange between Russia and Indonesia:
“Today, despite the long-standing establishment of diplomatic and trade relations, our countries still know little about each other. This problem is a serious obstacle to rapprochement. " The moderator of the session was Associate Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Defense, leading expert of the ASEAN Center E.V. Koldunova.
The session also touched on issues of Russian-Indonesian economic cooperation in the digital era. Participants discussed the challenges that multicultural societies face during the spread of new digital technologies.
The RAUIE members developed practical recommendations for implementation of trade, economic, investment and technological projects.
