RAUIE chairman Vitaly Mankevich spoke at the networking evening of the Association of Exporters and Importers (AEI), dedicated to current issues of international trade and logistics.

In his speech, he gave a strategic overview of how the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz affected global supply chains and why Russia is turning into a key logistics hub for Chinese goods.

Main points of the speech:

Hormuz is not just a strait. 20% of the world's oil and 25% of LNG pass through it. The 2024 blockade became a trigger: China no longer wants to depend on a single "narrow entrance" and is building a network of routes. Russia in this network is a strategic hub.
Russia has overtaken Saudi Arabia in oil supplies to China. 1.8 million barrels per day (+15%). The route through ESPO (Eastern Siberia — Pacific Ocean) does not depend on Hormuz — it is "insurance" for China.
China no longer bets on a single route. It is building a network. And in this network, Russia is a strategic hub.
New logistics tracks:

NSR: container transit +45%, China is booking slots on icebreakers, reducing timelines by 10–15 days. Murmansk and Arkhangelsk are new "hubs."
"North-South" corridor: total cargo flow +25%, containers from China +17%. Russia is the "gateway" to Iran and the Middle East.
Trans-Caspian route: +18%, but it goes bypassing Russia — this is an alternative for diversification.

What this means for Russian companies:

For exporters: growing demand for supplies through the Far East and Murmansk, the possibility of long-term contracts.
For importers: more container trains = lower delivery costs for SMEs. Growing competition for warehouse capacity — book slots in advance.
For logistics companies: a "golden window" — new routes, new services, customs clearance, forwarding, transshipment.

In conclusion, Vitaly Mankevich noted that the macro level is theory, but in practice it is concrete freight rates, delivery times, and customs procedures.

We thank the AEI for organizing the event and all participants for the lively dialogue!
